Manchester City’s World Cup winner Julian Alvarez has made his presence felt during his first 100 appearances for the club. Alvarez came off the bench during yesterday’s 5-1 win over Wolves at the Etihad Stadium yesterday. He made an immediate impact in his 100th appearance for the club by scoring City’s fifth and final goal of their emphatic win yesterday.

Since arriving at Manchester City from River Plate, Julian Alvarez has become an important member of Pep Guardiola’s squad. He has scored 35 goals and added 17 assists during his time at the world champions. But the statistics don’t tell the full story of the impact Manchester City’s World Cup winner has had at the club.

At the times the contribution of Julian Alvarez is overshadowed by the goal scoring feats of Erling Haaland. Given the absurd rate that Haaland scores goals that is only natural. But Julian Alvarez is a different type of player to Manchester City’s wrecking ball. When called upon to lead the line, the Argentinian international brings a different set of attributes to Pep Guardiola’s team.

That was evident earlier this season when Erling Haaland missed two months of this season due to a foot injury. There is an argument to be made that without the contribution of Alvarez and Phil Foden, Manchester City wouldn’t be in contention for a fourth consecutive Premier League title. With Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne both out with injuries, it was the contributions of the pair that maintained City’s title charge. The pair were also key contributors to City’s FIFA Club World Cup win in December.

Julian Alvarez is also one of Manchester City’s most durable players. He has made 51 appearances in all competitions for the treble winners so far this season. Whether he is called upon to play up front, on the wing, or in midfield, Manchester City’s World Cup winner always gives 100%. While his game is still developing, his workrate can never be questioned. It’s this durability coupled with his tremendous ability that has made him an integral player in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Julian Alvarez has made his presence felt during his first 100 games for Manchester City. As his game develops, he would appear set to make an even greater impact over the next 100 games of his City career given the start he has made to his City career.
